From the recording The Intelligence of Rocks

Having established that the method of all of these pieces is to suggest that the listener, or the player of the music, is engaged in a disengaged commentary on intelligence and warfare, this piece extends the process further. Here we are presented with three elements 1. Scientific data about the effects of nuclear weapons 2. A map of a metropolitan area with radii superimposed, as if to infer some kind of study of a catastrophic nuclear event, and 3. Music of operatic intensity. The language and shape of the music suggest the denouement of an operatic plot: this could be a duet, but if that is so, in the final breaths it is unquestionably defeatist.
